Happy Christmas!

This is my favorite Christmas song, I play it over and over again every year :D
My sister came to visit and will celebrate in German way: lots of marzipan and lazy afternoons...

Happy Holidays everyone

Wish list

Dear Santa,

if you're seeing this, please know that I've been a good, good girl. I thought it carefully and I wish only things that I absolutely need, so I'll really happy to welcome any of these. If all together, the better :)

Wintery feeling

The warm days of golden autumn are long gone. It has been rainy and grey-ish all week, but this morning - a total surprise. It's snowing!!! Like in fairy tales :)

I really don't like winter, but the snow (which, by the way is not something usual in west Germany) made me jump out of the bed with such joy!

So, let it snow, let it snow!

Crochet Mittens

It doesn't snow that much here in West Germany but it can get really windy and cold. Especially when I'm riding my bike! No worries now, my mittens are finally ready. Yeeee!

Let me tell you that I started from really basic skills and with the help of this YouTube tutorial I made my pretty mittens :D I'm so so proud! I didn't use the measurements in the video, I kept working, trying out, undoing till it fit!

I used:
Medium weight wool
Crochet hook no. 2
Yolanda's Soto-Lopez YouTube tutorial

The perfect afternoon

After riding the bike through the sun and golden leaves there's nothing better than a coffee and a warm waffle. I absolutely love Germany - when it's not raining!

DIY Knot Necklace

I know I might be a bit late on this topic. I made this necklace in Spring and wear it all Summer long. It was a very simple and quick thing to do but of a big impact. With no shame I must say it gather quite some compliments :)

You need:
40 cm curtain tieback coard
round crimp with lobster connector
hot glue gun or super glue

I used the Cloud Knot video below from TIAT. Check also his amazing YouTube collection of all the imaginable and unimaginable types of knots and coards, for sure you'll find something on your taste.

Let me know if you liked this or you found this information useful.

Thanks

There's no place like Berlin

Berlin got stuck into my heart. It is such an amazing city! Big, messy, colorful,  loud - just as I like it!

I moved to  Germany 2 years ago and I got quite fast used to the German way, the weather, the people. And I like it! But Berlin!!! Berlin took me completely by surprise. It's so unbelievably big and diverse, I can't imagine someone will ever get board there.

I felt there's a place for everyone in Berlin. No matter where you come from, what you like or want to do. The city is so welcoming and offers everyone a way of expression.

I just hope to be back there soon. Really soon.

P.S. here you can find a very good guide of Berlin put together by one of my favorite bloggers Sandra Juto. I tried 2 of her suggestions - super happy. Sandra also post the most amazing pictures of Berlin. Be sure to follow her also on Instagram

Fashion Crush

To be honest my life is pretty much connected to the internet. I don't go out so much and I go to the stores only when it's absolutely necessary. On the contrary I visit or see ads from tens of online shop every day, but who doesn't :P
The other day as Garance was speaking about finding the perfect t-shirt, I decided to have a look at Zara. And as you can guess no trace of that particular t-shirt, BUT I had the coup de foudre over a pair of  trousers. There are not exactly my style but I can't stop thinking of them (blushing)...

Burgundy Inspiration

Burgundy it's a colour that pops up more and more on fashion blogs. I even bought a pair of trousers a couple of moths ago as I was in Amsterdam and forgot mine home (yeap, it can happen). As emergency I entered in the fist H&M and put my hand on the first pair I saw (similar here) and wear it over and over ever since. Yeap, the weather is not so great, here in Germany.

Coming back to burgundy, I love this colour. I always had it in my wardrobe (sweaters, jacket but usually accessories scarfs, tights, gloves, etc.) and I even had my hair coloured like this when I was in high school. Not to mention that my all time favourite ring is a beautiful redwine stone on a vintage monture. <3

Here are my fav looks so far.

Paris, je t'aime aussi

I know, so many others said that before me...but how could you not say it! I feel like shouting it! And Paris answering me back: "Moi aussi, Cherie. Reste ici chez moi!" ❤❤❤

For someone (me) speaking fluently French, being in Paris for the first time it's like a dream come true. I know so much about France, Paris, french culture & co that being there felt like the place to be. The french je ne sais quoi, the incredible landscape of Nord-Est Coast (Calais), the langue like music to my ears, the charm of Paris are simply irresistible!

I know Paris it's big and touristy and crowded but being there gave me the feeling that it's worth spending a year or two...(Gasp). Luckly it's only 4 and a half hours drive. Hope to come back soon, really soon!

is getting more and more popular. Used as simple strip of color to creating more complex designs (as in the video) it's definitely a must have in every house.

On finding my voice

Let's run away

I read a great article over on A Cup of Jo yesterday, where the mom and full time blogger, Joanna, speaks about a blogging as a career. I am reading her blog for years and it has always been a great source of inspiration. I mean interesting links, cool people, funny stories, cute babies, the latest trends in fashion, beauty, design and the list could go on. She has all my appreciation and admiration for what she does, for begging successful, for delivering a great content and of course for sharing her experiences with us.

Here is Joanna's advice for growing a blog. I copied it in bold below and wrote some notes to myself and to whomever landed here by chance.

People will like reading your blog—and you'll enjoy writing it—if you're true to yourself and your posts come from the heart. When you write a post, imagine your mom or best friend reading it. Does it sound like your voice?
No it's not exactly my voice as English is not my mother tongue. I am Romanian, start learning English when I was 12 (never had a passion for it) but I always loved Latin languages. I am fluent in French, perfectly understand Spanish and Italian. And above all, two years ago I moved to Germany and start learning German from zero. No wonder I am sometimes confused :)

Does the topic fascinate or inspire you?
Yes, of course. I am deeply interested in the things I share, or better said, I want to share. I want the blog to be a place of reflection, where I put down the thinks that go through my mind, where I collect things I like, things I want to remember and also to use it to improved my skills: writing, English, photography, photo editing, to build my self esteem, to let go of some old prejudices and so on...I am writing this very quickly without to much thinking otherwise I wont post it, I know myself .

Is the post clear and enticing and visual?
Visually I could work it out, but for being clear I writing I need more practice, I know :) I remember my friends telling me when I was trying to elaborate whatever "You know we love you, but get to the point!"
And because I am not a native English speaker, I had to look up enticing(there's no shame, learning is a lifelong experience). Mirriam nicely explained the meaning: to attract artfully or by arousing hope or desire. This is really something I should think about more often. Why others should read my blog? For now it's not an interactive experience for me (I put the questions, I answer). It's more having my own, little corner on the internet :) If there's some here just say hello. I would be happy to hear from you.

Do you have a point of view that's different from other bloggers? Write about what you love. I wrote a short interview about blogging here. As I've said before, I think everyone has an amazing blog inside them, or a story to tell, and I really encourage people to go for it. If you're starting out, best of luck! :)

You can find the entire article here. I know for sure I will come over and over back to it. Thank you, Joanna

Friday, 13

Happy birthday to me!
Let's ride this wave

I was born 28 years ago on a hot summer Friday night in a charming transylvanian town. Though I never gave importance to age nor numbers, today, this number seems pretty big (not to say old) to me. In fact whenever someone asks me my age I need some time think. Ahhhh twentyyyyyyyyyy...how much was that again? 26! already?! no,no, no wait. 12- 84! ahhhh...28?!?

Yeap 28 it is! So welcome year 28! Hope you are bringing me something good!

Endless source of inspiration

Design*Sponge is more than a website is a platform dedicated to interior and product design, home cooking and DIY projects. They also feature designers, artists and everyone who has something interesting, creative, out of ordinary to show. They have a huge success with over 250000 daily pageviews not to mention the RSS subscribers and Twitter followers and they are definitely one of the trendsetters in home decoration and design online community.
My favourite sections are: sneak-peeks where you can see absolutely fabulous homes or working spaces of real people, DIY projects and the most fun before&after.

I want to keep this idea on mind: how you can transform white cold tones into milder ones with...black tea! I want to use this for big size passe-partout as suggested in the article! Quite handy, no?!

Easter Reloaded

Instagram

This is the last post about Easter, I promise. As I am Romanian, my family and friends back home are celebrating Easter tomorrow and via Facebook I get slowly back into the mood. I am not that religious and for me Easter meant more new clothes from the Bunny, spring holidays and mandatory colored eggs.

Another old tradition from Transylvania is the "the sprinkle" (it's so funny, I don't even know how to translate in English). In rural communities on the second day of Easter the youngsters went through the village to sprinkle with water the women in the family and the girls they liked, offering their best wishes. The water was used as a sign of fertility and abundance. The boys received traditional Easter food (lamb, cakes) and of course colored eggs and strong drinks.

Nowadays it's used perfume instead of water and if you received on of the visitors you will have luck all year round. I liked it so much as a teenager because everyone was allowed to stay out late :)

And with this the Easter fever is over.

My Milk Tooth

Rabbit is way too curious (Instagram)

No doubt one of my favorite blogs is My Milk Tooth. ickle and Lardee are the most adorable cute little guys that one can imagine. Each new post makes me melt. They are so adorable, the story is always catchy and the details are unbelievable sweet. I was joking with a friend saying that you can get toothache so sweet they are.

I gave the book to my boyfriend as Christmas gift and it was one of the best choices I ever made. Look at Rabbit, he can't get his eyes off the book. It really makes a great present for friends and kids. I will buy it for sure again also to support the artist and keep the story on. She is doing such an amazing job!

Rush

Instagram

I managed to get some things done: the postcards - usually the most fun part but the most messy one, cleaning, landlords visits, baking a cake (mix of Sachertorte and Death by chocolate - results?! for sure it looks yummy) and of course the not so fun part of cleaning again the kitchen after baking a chocolate cake. For sure I need to better plan my work flow :/

As I'm in Germany and every Holiday is holy all shops were close today. So I will have to leave the eggs colouring for tomorrow morning as I had no paint. Maybe that's good otherwise I wouldn't have time to write this post...Oh was that positive thinking? OMG I'm making progresses

Fun trip

I'm super excited about tomorrow. I am going to visit CREATIVA fair in Dortmund - Europe's largest exhibition devoted to creative design, with more than 500 participants. I was there also last year but during the weekend and it was very crowded and tiring. I hope this time I can participate to some workshops and for sure I will find lots of little pretty things. Hihihi...

New challenges

Instagram
Actually the message I posted yesterday was for myself. I am going through a challenging period right now but I am hoping things will get better soon! I just needed some encouraging/ inspiration.  I was like a battle cry, because I will overcome this, I will fight!

I am not capable to share my worries here but I will share I my fight! It isn't as dramatic as it might sound but for sure it will not be easy for me. To cut the long story short, I am engaging in a weekly DIY project. The internet is nowadays an unlimited source of inspiration, so there is no excuse for me. I will collect cool ideas on my Pinterest board and also post my own creations. I have to do something new every week: take pictures, build a collection, post details about process, costs...

Oh, I wanted to do this for such a long time...

Another trial

It has been almost one year since I last posted. I read lots of blogs daily and I am wondering how all this interesting, inspiring people with super busy lives find the time to blog. I find myself most of the time without any drop of inspiration when it comes to make a public statements (even commenting on Facebook), but on the same time I feel the need to do something more creative and to keep track of my findings. Does this even make sense? Doesn't matter because almost no one knows this blog...

I came to the conclusion that for blogging or any online type of being practice and some continuity are needed. These being said I will give it another try.

Now, let's see if I can wright 10 posts in 2 months.

♥ EM

I don't think I've ever bought clothes I badly wanted - so far. I usually buy on impulse things that I need, if they are on sales the better but never something I'm totally crazy about.

I am about to change that thanks to beautiful and interesting Emerson from Emersonmade. For more than a year I am following her and I absolutely love everything that she makes (she has indeed the same taste as I do). First were the flowers, then the styling and now she really blew my mind with the spring collection...I love the effortless elegance and charm, which show a strong personality.

This outfit is from an older collection, I would wear it no matter what season/ collection/ trend. I love it!!

Home office

In 2010 I moved together with my boyfriend in Düsseldorf - a lovely city in the West of Germany. We are  still living in the same tinny apartment but I hope we can move this summer to a bigger place were we could also host our guest. My number demand is to have a bathtub (apparently not so common in Germany) and to be big enough so that I can organize a working space :D

I would like something like that: high ceiling, natural light, not so ordinary walls...Actually the picture below was taken in the house of Trine Andersen, the co-founder of ferm living, the company which made the peacock feather wallpaper! Really, really lovely!

Blogging...

I looooove calenders, I always want to have couple of them in the house. One of my ever favs was Camilla Engman's 2011 Calendar. I was so excited to receive it as Christmas gift. See more of Camiila's work on her blog and website.

December was my favourite moths due to  Morran, Camilla's dog

I can only admire and somehow envy the people who regularly blog. I find some of them so fascinating, creative and surprising that I even feel a bit embarrassed typing this words, as a modest attempt to blog. But I want to give it a try, now after almost one year since my first post.

I am interested in arts&crafts, I read lots of blogs on these topics and from now and then I try to do something for myself, friends and family. So I decided to post (re-post) here some of the cool things I see around, especially DIY tutorials and than try to do them myself. Sadly, last month I lost our precious photo camera, so I will have to wait until I'll be able to show my results (if they are any worth, of course ;)
